*Experience

I am a long time, experienced psychotherapist and an aphasic with other impairments twenty-eight years from my stroke. These two perspectives together give me a profound personal and clincal understanding of the difficult emotional and social issues that you as an aphasia and stroke survivor and your loved ones face.

*Solving Problems  and Providing Information

My intent in therapy with you is to assist you in coping  with the emotional disruptions that are part of losing speech and having a stroke. Depression, anxiety, anger, confusion to name a few. Some emotional and relationship patterns can also become more troublesome with the new stresses of impairment and the new sense of invisibility. These can be overwhelming for everyone and can fester without help. Seeking therapy is a "Yes!" to life and your own willingness to discover inner peacefulness.

My intent in coaching with you is to help you get an organizing perspective on your medical and your personal issues. The suddenness of aphasia is disruptive to be sure; coaching helps you think about how to order and pace your life to make it better and to see prospects.

My goal is to help you see and use the challenges of stroke and impairment to live a graceful and rich life -- anyway.

Seek psychotherapy or coaching sooner rather than later; don't wait. Say "Yes" to your future!

*Easy Face-to-face Video-calling Technology Across the Nation

I can now serve you wherever you are  around the country  from my office in Southern Oregon. With a computer and a videocam we can have sessions, me in my office and you in the safely, comfort, and privacy of your own home --using the free Skype video-call technology over the internet.

For information about Skype please go to  www.skype.com . It is easy and it is free. Download, sign-in, get your friends to do it too, and experiment with free national video-calling with them. It is vastly easier for an aphasic than telephones! Trust me on that. Call me at ruthreschphd.

Psychotherapy is a Relationship

I will bring my best knowledge, empathy, and listening to our sessions. When everyone brings willingness, and a  strong desire for something different to happen, psychotherapy can spark something new and essential.  It is a two way street - aphasic to aphasic.
