-- Beyond Stroke and Brain Trauma

Benefits of Psycho-Neurological Functional Resilience Therapy:
for Families and Survivors

1 Learning to see and then

to be able to use the very important differences between pre- and post- stroke emotions. Don't be afraid of the new problematic ones;they can change.

2 Learning to manage fatigue and challenge toward positive change. Fatigue doesn't always equal depression!

3 Understanding where to simplify and also diversify life through the changes in impairment. Rehabilitation isn't just in someone's office; you can learn to invent.

4 Survivors and Families can actually develop a richer and more graceful life! Your life can actually expand after the contraction of stroke.

Solving Difficulties and Providing Information -- Survivor and/or Family

Education.: Learning how brain plasticity give a whole perspective on how far change can go! Rehabilitation therapies are essential, but attitude, perseverance and pleasure are everything in making recovery more successful. Emotions are signals of a physical system in distress. Learning what these different signals are after stroke helps make an alliance with creating positive brain change.

Coaching: Managing emotions, attitude and well being: the how of making a partnership with emotions to enhance recovery, the how of the relevance of brain plasticity, the how of creating simplicity and pleasure in brain recovery.

Deeper Inquiry: As needed when it helps to ensure success.

The work with me -- much like physical and speech therapies -- is learning new specific ways to enhance progress and recovery. Psychological and emotional recovery is working with the neurological changes to aid the brain to reform itself and create new function and self-confidence. Neuro-plasticity is a whole new way of thinking about how much change is possible, and I am combining that thinking with mental health and recovery over time.
