National Aphasia Association www.aphasia.org

National Stroke Association

These sites provide many levels of information -- from the beginning -- for the consumer. They show you resources available, professionals and services by state. And there are 1-800 numbers to speak to an actual person.

Speech Therapy

www.aphasiatoolbox.com

These folks don't give up. Their philosophy is that there is always room for more speech recovery. As a long time aphasic I agree with that!

Exercise

www.nianow.com "Through movement we find health" is their motto. Whatever your fitness level, there is a way in Nia to exercise with benefit and actual ease, whether standing, sitting on a chair, or in a wheelchair. However impaired you might be, their core idea is pleasure in movement in the way that happens for you.

Check out the website. There is a regional directory of classes on the site.

My experience is that some kind of pleasurable exercise reduces physical stress and thereby promotes emotional well-being. And Nia is a lot of fun!
