As a survivor of two neurological events returning to practice, I work with clients about what it is like from the inside for them -- what their daily living is like with impairment. I teach clients and families to observe the details of daily coping maneuvers, observe fatigue, taking on too much or too little, where the limits are today.
I ask clients and families: what is possible?...what kind of live notwithstanding impairment. I show everyone what the new paradigm of neuro-plasticity means for them in a practical way in their lives -- how plasticity can work with them toward their goals, working with impairment rather than against it. I myself am a poster woman for plasticity. I show the way.
It is all about working with resilience, at the level of neurophysiology, at the level of motivation and pleasure to make plastic change, and at the level of daily living and life goals.
Clients and families benefit because they live more gracefully with impairment as they make neuroplastic change to follow what they love in their lives.
